The original subdivisions in Squaw Valley began developing in the early 1950s and continued into the 1970s. These subdivisions include Squaw Valley Estates 1-4, Squaw Valley View, Forest Glen 1-2 and Granite Chief.
Locations within this subdivisions offer different features of the Squaw Valley lifestyle. Many of the properties in the Squaw Valley Estates and Granite Chief subdivisions offer views of the mountain and close proximity to the ski area and Shirley Canyon. While some of the properties in the Squaw Valley View and Forest Glen subdivisions have ski area views, they feature easier access and some offer frontage along Squaw Creek.
Creekside Estates was established in 2004, as a private community. It is located at the east end of Squaw Valley and is bordered on the north side by the seasonal Squaw Creek. It is composed of 24 residential parcels. Creekside Estates enjoys some distant vistas of the ski area and some views of Painted Rock, a naturally multi-colored rock in the Truckee River corridor.
Granite Chief is one of Squaw Valley's original subdivisions however it has private roads maintained by the homeowner's association. Granite Chief is home to the few ski-in ski-out residential properties in Squaw Valley. The subdivision is adjacent to the Sunnyside of the Mountain Run of Squaw Valley Ski Area allowing property owners to access the ski area directly or with a short walk or traverse.
Hidden Lake was founded in 1988 as a private gated community. This established neighborhood offers views of the ski area, southern exposure, private roads, a lake, and 2 tennis courts. The lake, for which the subdivision was named, is spring fed, about 6 to 8 feet deep which allows for swimming in the summer. In the winter months the lake freezes and some owners enjoy early winter ice skating. Hidden Lake is a planned unit development which was originally composed of 35 parcels and later two additional parcels were annexed into the community. The PUD has set building pads in which to build plus each owner enjoys exclusive use areas around their building pad.
Homesites at Squaw Creek was established in 1990 as a private exclusive community along the South side of Squaw Valley adjacent to the Resort at Squaw Creek Hotel. It is composed of 48 residential parcels, 12 of which front the Trent Jones designed 18 hole links style golf course. This subdivision winds up the mountainside allowing for some ski area and mountain views. At this point in time, Homesites at Squaw Creek has an agreement with the Resort at Squaw Creek regarding use of their amenities. Details and disclosures regarding this agreement are available.
Painted Rock was established in 1998, as a private gated community, composed of 35 residential parcels. It is located at the east end of Squaw Valley and a portion of the subdivision is bordered on the south side by Squaw Creek. Painted Rock features a gated entry, private roads, playground for young children and pleasant views. The views include distant vistas of the ski area and great views of Painted Rock, a naturally multi-colored rock along the Truckee River corridor, for which the subdivision is named. Squaw Creek Estates was established in 1999 as a private exclusive community, composed of 6 residential parcels. It is located along the south side of Squaw Valley. The subdivision offers ski area and golf course views as well as easy access to the bike trail system.
Squaw Summit was established in 1985 as a private and exclusive subdivision. Much of it’s prestige is derived from it’s location, which is the highest point up the mountainside therefore reaping the most dramatic views. It is a planned unit development which was originally composed of 8 parcels and later two additional parcels were annexed into the community. The PUD has set building pads in which to build, and then each owner enjoys exclusive use areas around their pad. The subdivision offers beautiful views of Squaw Valley ski area, a tennis court and easy access to hiking trails and back country skiing and boarding.
