The charming mountain town of Truckee is rich with history and has a strong sense of community. Truckee, originally called Coburn Station, was later named after a Paiute Chief Tru-ki-zo. The first European travelers coming through the Sierras approached his tribe. As they approached the chief yelled "Tro-kay!", which means, "Everything is all right!" in Pauite. The travelers thought it was his name, hence our modern day Truckee.

The Town of Truckee is composed of a charming downtown and a variety of subdivisions and neighborhoods spreading out from there. The residential areas making up Truckee include Martis Camp, Lahontan, Old Greenwood, Grays Crossing, Schaffer's Mill, Tahoe Donner, Glenshire, Sierra Meadows, Prosser Creek and Donner Lake, to name a few.

Downtown is home to many fine eateries and local shops. With the train station centrally located, the sound of trains blowing their horns as they glide along the tracks is part of Truckee's rich character. Truckee also features a community airport for small aircrafts allowing convenient travel plans for those who fly. Check out our video with aerial footage from the Truckee Airport to Olympic Valley.
