Connections That Go Beyond a Referral Network
How does a small independent real estate firm offer clients connections around the world?
Since 2009, Lawrence Realty has been part of Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate, giving us a trusted network of luxury brokers across the country and around the world. After years of working, learning, and spending time together, many of those professional connections have also become friendships.
I recently returned from the Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate Fall Conference in Denver, and as always, I came home with new ideas, renewed connections, and a reminder of why being part of this network has been so valuable to us.
As a small, independent real estate firm in Olympic Valley, we value our independence and the ability to run our business in a personal way. But being independent doesn't mean operating alone.
We've been members of Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate for 17 years. The network connects us with real estate professionals across the country and around the world, not just for referrals, but also for collaboration, problem solving, and sharing ideas.
More Than Names in a Directory
The conferences take place three times a year, and after all these years, they can feel a little like a reunion. There are familiar faces we look forward to seeing and always new people to meet.
One evening after a full conference day, a group of us longtime attendees had dinner together in downtown Denver. As we got settled, one suggested we start the evening by sharing a little known fact about ourselves. It was surprisingly fun around a table of people whose markets, families, travels, and careers we've heard about for years. My contribution? I shared that I'm an X Games medal winner, which definitely caught most of them by surprise.
It's a small example of what makes this network special. These aren't simply names I would pull from a referral list. Many are people I would confidently refer a client to and also invite into my home for dinner if they were in town.
Learning From Each Other
The conferences also give us a chance to step away from our individual markets and learn from one another. Over the years, we've participated on panels, shared ideas, troubleshooted unusual real estate situations, and learned from fellow members and industry professionals.
This year, there was a strong focus on artificial intelligence, how quickly it is evolving and its place in real estate. AI can make many of the behind the scenes aspects of our business more efficient, one example be the growing use of AI assistants. But one message came through clearly: technology doesn't replace why clients hire us. Relationships, local expertise, judgment, problem solving, and trusted guidance through a significant transaction remain at the heart of what we do.
Larry, Ron, and I rotate attending the conferences so we can all maintain these connections. Occasionally, we attend together, like last fall, when Larry received the network's Lifetime Achievement Award. We can confidently say, we personally know many of the brokers on this distinguished list.
As a final note, there's a practical benefit we'd like our clients to remember. If you're ever looking for a real estate broker outside the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area, check with us first. We've made these introductions for clients over the years, and there's a good chance we can connect you with an exceptional broker, quite possibly someone we already know and trust.
